Would you like to know how circular economy can build economic, natural, and social capital?

We would love for you to join our workshop on circular economy as part of the Students for the Global Goals Festival 2019!

We will be looking beyond the take-make-waste extractive industrial model and investigate cases from SDG Invest to get hands-on experience on how to apply circular economy into a business model and which business models succeed.

SDG Invest is an asset management association which seeks to promote investments which both are financially stable and are sustainable. SDG Invest distinguishes itself from the market by only investing in companies which follows the seventeen SDGs and by taking active ownership. The workshop will carry the theoretical and practical aspect and lay out pathways for students to operationalise circular economy.

The event is brought to you by two student organisations:

  1. Sustainability Influencers is a student programme of 21 students from Danish universities engaging, empowering and mobilizing youth on sustainability and the global goals
  2. Business Unusual is an economic society at Copenhagen Business School that engages students in heterodox economics and critical thinking

Julefrokost – sustainably!

By | Activities & Events

Winter is drawing to an end and the festive spirit of Christmas may seem a long way away – so it may seem odd to be writing a post on a cold grey February day about our Sustainable Julefrokost way back in December. However, many of the ideas mentioned in this guide could also be adapted for upcoming holidays like Danish Carnival (Fastelavn), or even an Easter party! You could source your Fastelavn costume from a thrift shop, or get your guests to make Easter decorations out of newspaper.

Not to mention the fact that we love to reuse and recycle as much as possible – and that includes ideas on how to host a sustainable party! ?

Stories from Africa

This Monday, 26 November, we hosted our first event. The event was held to raise awareness about the UN Sustainable Development Goal no. 8: Decent Work. Two young people from Kenya and Tanzania shared their stories and how they work with issues such as proper working conditions. Moreover, they shared their take on opportunities for development and education in their own countries.
From the stories, we learned that half of the young students drop out of school before high school and that those who completed high school and longer educations are forced to work under poor conditions with a low income. Both of our speakers came from organizations that help youth with completing educations through mentorships. Furthermore, they collaborate with FIC to raise awareness about the challenges related to UN SDG no. 8.’
After the two presentations, we discussed SDG no. 8. Where a key question was whether working under poor conditions, is better than no work at all. This, amongst others, shows that businesses must take their responsibility seriously when they have extended supply chains with production or other facilities placed in developing countries.
This event was hosted in collaboration with the Forum for International Cooperation (FIC) and their partners from their East Africa program. FIC is a non-profit corporation that fights for social, economic and democratic rights for those with few resources. FIC is drawing attention to the positive impacts of access to decent work and information on employee rights (Global Goal 8).
